2019 Scholarship Recipients Announced

Each year our scholarship committee reviews the scholarship applications of hundreds of graduating seniors from the various campuses in the Goose Creek CISD. We are always impressed with the quality of the students that apply.

It is a difficult challenge for us to narrow the list and select our winners. We are ultimately guided by the question: “Does this student remind us of Mike?” Many of the applicants do remind us of Mike, so making the final selections is rarely easy. And yet our task is to select eight students.

On Saturday, May 11, 2019 we awarded scholarships to this year’s eight deserving students.

L-R: Dr. Anthony Price (Deputy Superintendent), Maria Gelves (IMPACT), Jackson Farnsworth (REL), Dylan Magill (RSS), Dr. Randal O’Brien (Superintendent), David Rodriguez (GCM), Lizbeth Rodriguez (RSS), Mark Casey (FOMC Director). Not pictured: Lizeth Mendoza (REL), Kayla Baham (GCM), Margret Rose Garza (Hyland).

On behalf of all of our many donors, volunteers, and the Clement family, we offer our congratulations to all of these excellent student leaders. It is our honor to play a small part in your ongoing educational pursuits.

We extend our thanks to the Goose Creek CISD for their support. We specifically want to thank Dr. Randal O’Brien, Dr. Anthony Price, Beth Dombrowa, and Chris Lowder. We also thank the district office that handles organizing the local scholarships and getting the applications to us. We also appreciate the work of the counselors at each of the GCCISD campuses. What important work you do!

The Baytown Sun has also been supportive of our efforts both at our annual charity golf tournament and at our award presentations. We are grateful to Editor David Bloom and to reporter Matt Hollis who covered this year’s award ceremony.

From an organizational standpoint, we could not do what we do without the help of Ron Lawhon, Carl Theiss, and Carole Villere. Thanks to all of you.

The complete list of all recipients since inception can be found here.
